Many of the West Coast villages centres around the fishing industry.

If you are looking for something very different join this tour. The morning route takes us to the West Coast Ostrich Farm. After many decades, the ostrich has been reintroduced to this part of the Cape. The talk and tour tells us of the habits of this strange bird. We then continue to the early mission station at Mamre dating back to 1808. Our route then winds through the Wheatlands to Darling and the fishing village of Saldanha. This natural harbour was a gathering station for convoys in the last war and now receives giant ore and oil carriers at the recently constructed jetty. The afternoon route travels through the West Coast Nature Reserve flanking a beautiful lagoon at Langebaan. The ride back to Cape Town is via Blaauberg with its world famous view of Table Mountain from across the bay. This tour operates on Tuesdays and Fridays.

On arrival tea/coffee and biscuits are served and guests are introduced to the elephants and their handlers. A short training session follows and guests witness the bond between groom and elephant being reinforced. Training is an integral part of this working life. The elephants are then saddled and the safari commences. The elephants follow ancient game trails and are led by an armed guide on foot. The grooms are friendly and knowledgeable and explain as much as possible about fauna and flora along the way. A bush breakfast is served mid-morning and the elephant then roam free until the afternoon activity. Return transfer to Victoria Falls late morning.

Afternoon Safari

Guests are collected mid afternoon for the drive to Woodlands estate. On arrival introductions are made between the guests, elephants and their handlers, and a brief familiarisation time is spent with them prior to saddling. Sundowners and snacks are served in the bush prior to the transfer back to Victoria Falls by early evening.
